Cross-country skiing

Santa Caterina Valfurva offers cross-country skiers numerous routes in a fairy-tale landscape.

The Valtellina track winds through a wide plain and dense forests at an elevation of 1800 m and features 5- and 10-km loops, ups and downs, and elevation differences between 190 m and 390 m. The track also features original and revolutionary technical solutions including, in particular, a challenging downhill run popular with experienced cross-country skiers.

In the past, the Valtellina track has been an important venue for international competitions and numerous World Cup events. Next to the competitive track, and partly coinciding with it, is the tourist track with 2, 3 and 5 km loops.

Both the competitive and tourist tracks, both of which are constantly maintained, were built under the supervision of Benito Moriconi, coach of the Italian national cross-country team and Olympic champion Manuela Di Centa.

Santa Caterina Valfurva’s high altitude and privileged location ensure perfect snow conditions on all trails.

The La Fonte center, located at the start of the Valtellina slope, is run directly by the instructors of the Cross-Country Ski School and has locker rooms, showers, waxing room, clothing and equipment storage, services that make it a real point of reference for all fans of the sport.
